Preston, Katie, and David on How Games Can Spotlight Environmental Awareness

Geocaching!

  • Outdoor activity where in a nature filled area, a cash is located. Its like a higher level treasure hunt. Students are to navigate using maps to the geocache!
  • Oil God Game and Profit Seed: As you make money, the world becomes more polluted.
    • Cross-curricular

Playing games and learning are interconnected. We must have a student’s attention for their most optimal learning.

  • Stanford Ocean Acidification Experiment Game: had 270 participants but they turned it into virtual reality so that all people can experience it, therefore it isn’t a hidden issue.
  • Trash Rage Virtual Reality Game: the power of technology in making a change in the way students see recycling and garbage.
  • Approx. $500 for the goggles
    • Not effective for teaching but its like a mini field trip
      • Goggle Cardboard goggles $30

The theory of proximity, people who have to  “see it to believe it”

        • VR experience shouldn’t replicate outdoor experiences that ARE available to you and your classrooms already
